Welcome

Welcome to the Olympia Wrestling Club!  OWC  offers wrestling instruction, practice and competition opportunities to youths age 5 to 12.   Wrestling is a challenging sport – both physically and mentally.  OWC is a non-profit corporation.  Our mission is to educate boys and girls about the sport of wrestling to inspire sportsmanship, integrity, character, leadership and wrestling excellence.  We aim to foster an atmosphere of ethical conduct and respect while having fun.

Our club is folkstyle (collegiate) wrestling and our season runs mid-October through mid-February. There is a spring freestyle wrestling season offered by another organization. We post information about the freestyle season as a courtesy when it is available. Freestyle usually starts at the beginning or middle of February and runs into May or June.

We welcome you and your child to attend any practice to check things out.

Eligibility

OWC welcomes any child between the ages of 5 and 12 as of December 31.

registration fees

Registration is $155 for a single wrestler. Fees for multi-wrestler families are $279 for two wrestlers, $372 for three wrestlers, and $464 for four wrestlers from the same family.

Practice

Wrestlers must arrive on time and be ready for practice.  This includes being dressed appropriately and ready to listen and learn.  Appropriate attire is t-shirt, shorts and wrestling shoes.  Headgear is optional during practice.  It is in the wrestler’s best interest to attend as many practices as possible.  We learn new moves each practice and do a lot of conditioning.  Strong minds and strong bodies are key to wrestling success.

Please have your wrestler use the restroom prior to practice. There is no restroom in the mat room. If your child needs to use the restroom during practice, s/he will need to be taken into the high school gymnasium.

Wrestling shoes are not to be worn outdoors. You can purchase shoe covers, use oversized slides to slip on over their shoes, or have a change of shoes available.

Competition

OWC is a member of the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League. PCJWL is a preparatory league and every attempt is made to mirror competitive conditions in high school. To achieve this, there is an official weigh-in at every League event and wrestlers will work toward a spot on the Junior Varsity/Varsity team.  See the Event page for details.
